English
The purpose of the English curriculum at The Howard School is:
- to enable our students to develop an appreciation of how language can be adapted and manipulated to achieve different purposes in order for them to use it purposefully themselves
- to enable our students to communicate with confidence in a variety of forms (including both written and spoken), in the real world, for different purposes and audiences
- to provide our students with an insight into human nature, society, morality, and life across the ages by exploring a wealth of literary and non-literary texts
- to encourage our students to be open-minded and receptive to the world and those in it
- to encourage our students to challenge and question the world around them.
