The purpose of the English curriculum at The Howard School is:

to enable our students to develop an appreciation of how language can be adapted and manipulated to achieve different purposes in order for them to use it purposefully themselves
to enable our students to communicate with confidence in a variety of forms (including both written and spoken), in the real world, for different purposes and audiences
to provide our students with an insight into human nature, society, morality, and life across the ages by exploring a wealth of literary and non-literary texts
to encourage our students to be open-minded and receptive to the world and those in it
to encourage our students to challenge and question the world around them.
