Mr K Woolmer
Assistant Principal
I completed my degree from the University of Manchester in Zoology with a 2i where I developed a strong interest in evolutionary behaviour, genetics and neurobiology. This led to me teaching Biology, Chemistry and Psychology to A level when I went into teaching straight after completing my PGCE.
After originally joining The Howard in 2014 as a Teacher of Science and Key Stage 3 lead I developed a keen interest in curriculum development, building a curriculum focussed around developing thinking and investigative skills in Science. In this time I completed the Outstanding Teacher Program run through the school and my NPQML.
In 2017 I took over as Head of Science and saw the department through Covid-19 and a specification change. I also assisted other Science departments within the trust to develop and embed their curriculum. During this time I became an associate examiner with Edexcel. All of this enabled me to develop a good understanding of assessment and data analysis.
I left The Howard in 2021 to take up the post of Assistant Headteacher at another school in Gravesham. There I led on whole school behaviour and was a qualified safeguarding lead. I then moved on to take over attendance, cover and rewards. I became adept in this time at developing systems to ensure that the school worked smoothly.
Upon returning to The Howard in 2023 I took the lead on attendance, working to ensure that even those students with the biggest barriers to school can have as much access to education as possible, keeping those doors for their future open. I have also been involved in developing our QLA system that gives exam groups in-depth, personalised feedback on their mock exams. I have since taken on cover, KS3 assessment, and oversight of a number of internal systems that allow the school to run efficiently.
Part of my role has also enabled me to work and gain an understanding on a wide variety of areas within school, developing systems and tracking data within areas of behaviour, teaching and learning, Raising standards and our ascent and aspire programs.
