Mr S Dunn

Assistant Principal

I joined The Howard School in 2015 and became Assistant Principal for Raising Standards and Quality of Education in 2022. I hold a BSc in Geography and an MSc in Environmental Science, both studied at the University of Liverpool. I have completed the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership (NPQSL) and bring extensive experience in curriculum design, assessment and whole-school improvement. My early leadership as Head of Geography saw the implementation of a re-designed curriculum and a rapid rise in outcomes, underpinned by my long-standing work as an examiner, which continues to inform my approach to high expectations and rigorous academic standards.

I lead the Aspire Programme, our strategic provision for High Prior Attainers, ensuring that students with the greatest potential receive the challenge, guidance and opportunities needed to excel. Through this work, I am committed to raising aspirations and ensuring that no door is closed to a student before they even know it exists. I also lead on Independent Study, developing a consistent and impactful approach to homework that builds students’ organisation, independence and resilience, while supporting families to understand how effective study habits contribute to long-term success.

Alongside this, I have been the school’s Educational Visits Co-ordinator (EVC) since 2021, overseeing a substantial programme of enrichment that includes over 30 visits each year. I have personally led eight international residentials and support staff to run safe, ambitious and transformative trips that broaden students’ perspectives and develop character beyond the classroom.

At the core of my work is a commitment to ensuring every student, regardless of background, achieves their personal best. I am passionate about transforming lives through education, maintaining a culture of high expectations and supporting staff to deliver the very best for the young people we serve.
