Mr S Green
Deputy Principal
I joined The Howard in 2010 as a PE specialist and quickly became part of the Department Leadership Team before moving into the Pastoral Team as Head of Year in 2017. Having taught across a range of subjects and taken part in the inaugural Outstanding Teachers Programme, I have a clear understanding of what it takes to be a high-quality classroom practitioner. I was the first Senior Head of Year appointed during the Covid-19 period, before progressing to Assistant Headteacher for Behaviour and Attitudes. Since 2023, I have served as Vice Principal for Behaviour and Attitudes and Designated Safeguarding Lead.
Having worked at the school for many years, I have seen—and been part of—its transformation into one of the highest-performing schools in Kent. I am particularly proud to have led the behaviour-improvement strategy over the last five years, during which we have established exceptionally high standards and created a calm, ordered school environment that supports outstanding learning. A key measure of the impact of this work is a 65% reduction in suspensions over the same five-year period.
My approach to behaviour leadership is outward-facing, aspirational, and built firmly around relationships, ensuring the school does the very best for every pupil. I have visited and supported a number of schools to help strengthen their behaviour systems, reflecting my commitment to continuous improvement and sector-wide collaboration. I am always seeking ways to elevate standards and bring out the best in both students and staff, ensuring The Howard School remains a frontrunner for excellence within the local area and beyond.
My leadership is shaped both by my professional journey and my sporting experience outside of school. I believe in discipline, consistency, and clear expectations, but I also know that young people thrive when strong, trusting relationships are built. Respect sits at the heart of my approach.
In addition to my work at The Howard, I have collaborated closely with several local schools and have recently completed my NPQH with LLSE. I am also part of the Difference Inclusion cohort for 2025/26 and contributed to the Medway Trauma Informed Practice Secondary Schools Group in 2023/24, further strengthening my expertise in inclusive, relational, and evidence-informed leadership.
